Micah Richards has been left baffled by Richarlison’s back tattoo which has his own face on it, alongside his international team mate Neymar and Brazil legend Ronaldo.
The Tottenham star revealed the tattoo as he took off his shirt to celebrate their 93rd minute equaliser as they came from three goals down against Liverpool on Sunday.
Despite his emphatic celebrations after his first Premier League goal for the club, Spurs still lost the game as Diogo Jota netted for Jurgen Klopp’s side one minute later.
Richards could be heard laughing in the background as Richarlison’s tattoo was brought up for discussion on BBC Five Live’s The Monday Night Club.
Asked why he was laughing, Richards responded: ‘It’s a bit ridiculous that isn’t it?
‘I mean R9 (Ronaldo) a legend of the game. Neymar has done very well for himself but why would you get him tattooed?’
Explaining his opinion he added: ‘Neymar is an outstanding player but it’s weird, he’s still playing.
‘I mean if it was like people who have retired I would get it, but Neymar’s his team mate.
‘It’s like me getting a tattoo of Daniel Sturridge. I mean I like him, I love him, he’s a quality player but I’m not going to get a tattoo of him.’
Richards was team mates with Sturridge at Man City before the latter left for Chelsea in 2009.
Richarlison’s mammoth back tattoo shows himself in the centre, with Ronaldo on the left and Neymar on the right.
He debuted his new ink on Instagram back in December, sharing footage from artist @dom.tattoo during the World Cup, where Brazil were eliminated in the quarter-finals to Croatia.
Explaining his tattoo in an interview with GQ magazine, Richarlison said: ‘Ronaldo was my hero when I first started football.
‘Neymar is of my generation, but a few years ahead of me. I wanted to play like him and have the same hair.’
‘And then I added myself, because I’m inspired by myself too.’
The tattoo also features a child overlooking a favela wearing a Richarlison jersey and a baseball cap.
Richarlison got his first tattoo in 2020, and has amassed a growing collection across the past three years.
There has been a lot of shocking tattoos seen in recent years in the Premier League.
Everton player Dele Alli has a host of animated TV and video game stars including Super Mario, Rick and Morty and Stewie from Family Guy inked on his body.
During his time at Tottenham, Alli showed off his new sleeve consisting of those characters in a video to then team mate Sergio Reguillon.
Manchester United star Jadon Sancho also showed his love for cartoon characters by getting a tattoo of the Simpsons on his arm.
Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe had a clock with Roman numerals inked onto his left arm, above a highly detailed lion face.
But instead of the usual 12 numbers on a clock, Smith Rowe’s tattoo has 13 numbers on the face while the number four on his arm is also written as ‘IIII’ instead of ‘IV’.
Richarlison isn’t the only player to have tattooed themselves on their body, as former Man City and current Bayern Munich star Leroy Sane has ink of him celebrating a goal on his back.
One of the most bizarre tattoos seen in recent years was former Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno who got one of a monkey holding a gun on his right thigh.
Perhaps the worst tattoo of any former Premier League player though goes to Artur Boruc who decided to get a tattoo of a monkey around his belly button.
